Why aren’t we there yet?

More and more, as we see the changes in regime since the 20th of January, 2025, we hear and read people who seem to think that paradise is nearly here. (Or nirvana, or “heaven on earth.”) And of course, we hear and read people who seem to think that the new regime has doomed America, and we are all going to die, get sent to Gitmo, or some other horrible fate.

It is easy to see how people would get excited about this. Whether they are eager and hopeful for the future. Or whether they are absolutely sure that we have a convicted criminal tyrant and dictator who is leading our entire nation and world off the cliff.

A lot of people ARE eager to leave at least the past four years behind us. Even those that hate and despise the new regime and its leader. But…

Although The Donald (Trump 2.0) has clearly learned from his mistakes in 2017-2021, we know just how hard it is to break habits. Especially bad habits, and even after a four-year break. So we see him doing some of the same things he did before – and the actual or potential backfiring of those things. Trusting the wrong people. Saying mean things. Thinking that just maybe this time, more people will look beyond the terror-promoting screams of Never-Trump. So after just 30 days, the jury is still out.

At the same time, we see that many of the criticisms espoused by the never-Trumpers and the now minority party are ill-advised, based on what seem to be unrealistic ideas, or are just plain wrong. Even the products of fevered imaginations.

Some examples:

In the past four weeks, we have heard and read many attacks on the current regime over the still-increasing cost of eggs. This is understandable. People have a right to freak out over eggs costing 75 cents, a dollar, or more apiece. Much much of this is claiming that Trump has broken his promise to lower food prices, that Trump is causing more inflation by his actions, and that he clearly has the power to do something about it – but won’t.

Without going into detail on why egg prices continue to climb (the bird flu, government’s stupid actions to respond to it, new animal protection laws, and the root cause of inflation, among others), many of these complaints are due to a very negative aspect of our culture – indeed, our civilization.

Instant gratification. We get upset if the browser takes a second or two longer to open that website than we like. We expect all food to be “fast food” even in a restaurant (or at home!). By golly, we want IT now! Not in five minutes or five hours or whatever. Next-day delivery is too slow!

Chickens are NOT tribbles: they don’t hatch out of their own egg already popping out more eggs. They take time to mature! (Oh, and guess what: if you need to hatch and grow up 10 million new layeing hens, that means 10 million eggs will NOT go to market for you to eat for breakfast. Or make mayo with! Farmers aren’t miracle workers or automatons: they can’t immediately get ten thousand eggs all producing chicks all at once and do everything else. Especially not when they are having to still deal with government inspectors (USDA, FDA, etc.) who are demanding that they go ahead and kill off ten thousand more laying hens because one hen tested positive for bird flu.

And as we see daily, it takes time to get government regulations and procedures – yes, and people – changed. Especially when the government workers themselves – and judges – and almost half of the politicians – are working to keep that from happening. Or just ignoring their instructions.

Folks, it takes time.

On to another example:

Gullible people and propaganda and brainwashing are all burdens we all have to bear. Here is one case we know of personally.

A young man was convicted of child molestation. And sentenced to several years in prison to pay for his crime and immorality. Now out of prison but on parole, he has been convinced that he is already on a list to be exiled or deported to Gitmo as an undesirable. That the Trumpistas are just organizing the military and ICE to come to his town and put him in chains and load him into a black bus.

We realize that sounds far-fetched. But a quick daily perusal of the front pages of Chrome or Edge or one of the establishment media’s web site finds a whole boatload of such propaganda and fears on display. We understand that it is even worse on social media: Facebook, NextDoor, X, Linked-in are all filled with horror stories about the criminal-in-chief and his minions who will tyrannize and terrorize us and the world for years after after Trump’s remains are entombed in something to rival anything that Alexander or Augustus or Hadrian had.

And because of poor moral compass skills and poor education and a general lack of maturity, we have people who believe these things – and tell others about them.

And then wonder why things are in turmoil.

Which brings us back to a repeated theme of TPOL: education, accountability, personal responsibility are essential for those who love liberty and want to regain it: not just of ourselves but of those around us.
