The darling

Following on yesterday’s pathetic blog post, the New York Times today ran a spread on Pierre Poilievre. Interesting. Here’s the opening descriptor, detailing why US Trumpers love our guy.

With his unapologetic conservatism, his vow to fix a “broken” nation, his “common sense” fight against elites and all things woke, his norm-shattering personal attacks against political rivals, his pugilistic use of demeaning nicknames and his open disdain of the news media, Pierre Poilievre, the front-runner to become Canada’s next leader, has become a darling of the American right.

Among his endorsers is the real American president, Elon Musk. He’s the unelected gazillionaire currently rampaging through the American government, conducting mass firings, about to eliminate the education department and who gutted US life-saving foreign aid while tossing the agency mandated with regulating banks, mortgages and digital money payments (like X is launching) into the wood chipper.

(Ironically, Cons in Canada warn that Mark Carney – when selected by Libs next month – will be an unelected prime minister. That’s why he will immediately call an election.)

Well, Canada will soon face a critical test, made all the more salient now that the US is walking back from NATO and about to throw Ukraine under the bus. Add to that the aggression towards the Panama Canal and Greenland (both of which America does not own), plus Trump’s plan to kick Gazans out of Gaza and his mocking of Canada – plus annexation plans – and we should be concerned. Our friend is outta control.

Who best in our nation to confront and push back on the Mar-a-Lago tyrant? Time to reflect on that. And as the NYT correctly reports, many Americans who support, idolize and slavishly follow Trump think they have PP in their pocket as a kindred soul. Maybe they do. Perhaps not. Big choice coming.

Meanwhile, we’ll just leave the following three items with you. They went out over the past few days to millions of people (including me) who the Trump forces think are gullible, naïve or so far down the MAGA cult rabbit hole that they’ll hand over money for make-believe favours. The man can never stop sticking out his hand, never quit taking from others and never cease trying to fool, deceive, trick or swindle supporters, secure in the knowledge they’re too thick to get it and too mesmerized to care.

But, judge for yourself.

Here is President Trump offering me a position as a ‘Cabinet-level Advisor’. To accept, all I need do is complete a survey on things I’d like Mr. Trump to accomplish. And send money.

Not to be left out, NATO-wrecker and vice-president JD Vance is asking me for guidance as part of an exclusive focus group. This comes after several states sued the administration for overreach in executive orders. “We can’t let them get away with tarnishing the name of our incredible President.” And, yes, send money.

And who would not want an official Trump Oval Office Badge? Kind of like a personal pass to the West Wing, and a public display of fealty to the boss. “I wish I could meet you in the Oval Office.” He says. In the meantime, send money.
