His research work centred around urban agriculture and food sovereignty, collective and communal forms of land tenure, and local governance

Joe Nasr reminds us of his huge contribution.
Feb 3, 2025

Yves was a huge figure in the emergence of the recognition of the connections between urbanization and food & agriculture. Since the 1990s, he combined activism, research and contributions to international institutions, bridging an interest in urban agriculture and food systems with planning and housing, participatory budgeting, and fighting forced evictions. For those who did not know him, a quick search on the internet can catch a sense of his roles in a wide range of communities.

Within our global community of food-for-cities, he taught, research and advocated for “urban agriculture, urban food systems, food sovereignty, collective and communal land tenure and integration of food into urban and regional planning in different regions of the world, primarily in the Global South”, as our friends at RUAF have posted. The following announcement at DPU, the former programme where he taught, provides further background on the scope of his work.

We offer our condolences to Yves’ wife, Cecilia Delgado, and the many on this list who have known him.
