Liberty HealthShare Takes a Bite Out of Dental Expenses

They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but what if your dental bills have grown enough teeth to bite into your savings? Liberty HealthShare, a faith-based healthcare sharing ministry, has expanded its offerings to include a supplemental dental sharing program designed to make dental care more accessible to its membership community.

The supplemental dental sharing program emerged directly from member feedback, illustrating Liberty HealthShare’s commitment to responsive program development.

“Every six months, we do a survey of our members asking them about their emerging needs … and one of them was the dental program, which we launched,” Chief Executive Officer Dorsey Morrow explains of the program’s genesis.

Liberty Dental offers members the freedom to visit any licensed dentist without network restrictions, a hallmark of Liberty HealthShare’s philosophy of providing options and flexibility to its community.

“This program is designed to make dental care more affordable for our members and their families by sharing the cost with the community of Liberty HealthShare members,” Morrow said.

Program Structure and Affordability

Liberty Dental maintains the ministry’s commitment to making healthcare financially accessible. Suggested monthly share amounts begin at just $35 for individuals, $69 for couples, and $129 for families of up to four members, with additional family members added for $20 each.

The program features modest annual unshared amounts — $75 for individuals, $150 for couples, and $200 for families of four or more — before eligible expenses become shareable. This structure helps members budget for dental care while providing meaningful assistance for preventive services.

“Our focus at Liberty HealthShare is on our members,” adds Morrow. “We are here to help facilitate sharing between our members. We are not driven by profit. It’s frankly our goal to go broke each month. The contributions coming in should be the contributions that go out.”

Preventive Care Emphasis

Liberty Dental reflects Liberty HealthShare’s philosophy that proactive healthcare management reduces long-term costs and improves quality of life. Members can receive up to 100% sharing of eligible preventive dental care expenses, encouraging regular check-ups and cleanings that help avoid more serious issues.

This aligns with the ministry’s broader mission of empowering members to take active roles in their healthcare decisions rather than passively accepting recommendations or delaying necessary care due to cost concerns.

Integration With Existing Membership

Current Liberty HealthShare members can add the dental program during the 60-day membership change period leading up to their membership anniversary, while new members can include it at enrollment. The program can be combined with the existing Careington Dental discount program for additional savings, providing members with layered options for managing dental expenses.

Liberty HealthShare’s approach to healthcare differs fundamentally from insurance models. Copious options, according to Morrow, are one of the attributes that make Liberty HealthShare unique. “We’ve got a number of programs so that somebody can select whatever works best for their family.”

The Liberty HealthShare Difference

The supplemental dental sharing program operates on the same community-oriented principles that define Liberty HealthShare’s model of healthcare sharing. Monthly contributions from members fund the sharing of eligible expenses within the community, creating a tangible sense of mutual support rather than a transactional relationship with an insurance provider.

“We honestly and sincerely want to cater to our members and help them navigate their healthcare journey because there are providers out there that are difficult to work with or who are not going to be transparent in talking to you,” Morrow points out.

“Anything and everything you want to know about Liberty HealthShare, you can go to our website,” Morrow states.

Members can manage their dental program through ShareBox, the ministry’s secure, online portal that allows them to submit bills, send in questions, track contributions and sharing activity.

Community Support Beyond Healthcare

Liberty HealthShare’s community commitment is always expanding, too. The ministry established the Sharing Hearts Fund for Pediatric Wellness, a charitable initiative assisting Stark County, Ohio families with children’s medical needs, including dental exams and cleanings.

“Our objective is to make it possible for families who have had to forego these important wellness procedures due to costs to move forward and provide critical checkups for their children,” explained Morrow. “We’re attempting to find those families in our county who don’t have other options to get these important procedures done.”

As Liberty HealthShare celebrates its 30th anniversary, the supplemental dental sharing program represents part of the ministry’s ongoing growth to meet members’ changing needs.
