Why Would God Raise Us in Such a Terrible Neighborhood – Earth?  He knows that Satan is God of this Earth, Right?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

I have to actually admit, this was a question that I asked God in one of my prayers. I had just learned about children that have been trafficked by the ******. I had to stop reading, as I was disgusted by what they were doing to these children, and the conditions which they were kept in.

My heart shattered. Can you even imagine what these children must be feeling? Horror, physical pain, and being absent from their families. I immediately began to pray for these kids, that their minds would be taken to another place of peace, and hoped that they would soon be found and reunited with their families.

My prayer then turned to the question… Heavenly Father, why? Why did you send us to live in such a terrible neighborhood? Why were we placed in such a terrible place, among horrible people? I needed to know. Why could a loving Father in Heaven place His children in an environment of harm and suffering. Who’s in charge of this earth anyway? I thought that it was time to study this topic, and found this scripture.

2 Corinthians 4:4 (KJV)

“In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”

This verse highlights that Satan is actually called the “god of this world”. He has been allowed to exert influence over the world’s people, deceiving those who do not believe in Christ. Well… this is kind of a big deal, right?

John 12:31 (KJV)

“Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.”

Jesus calls Satan “the prince of this world,” but also foretells his defeat.

So, satan is the God of this Earth? Well, if this is the case, it certainly explains why there is so much evil and corruption on the Earth. Knowing this is important in explaining all of the evil that is upon the Earth. His leadership and influence have caused so much destruction here. This destruction effects all of us, agreed?

If this is the case, what is our relationship with God? Can God get through to us if we are under the “rule” of satan? Let’s keep searching.

John 14:30 (KJV)

“Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.”

I was puzzled by this scripture. Does this mean that Jesus will not be talking to us because satan was now the ruler? Not so fast. Let’s break this scripture down.

Meaning & Explanation:

“Hereafter I will not talk much with you

Jesus was preparing His disciples for His departure. He knew that His time on earth was coming to an end, and soon He would be arrested, tried, and crucified. His opportunity to speak openly with them was about to be cut short.

For the prince of this world cometh

The “prince of this world” refers to satan, who had influence over worldly systems and those who opposed Jesus. At this moment, Satan was working through Judas Iscariot, the Jewish leaders, and the Roman authorities to bring about Jesus’ arrest and crucifixion (John 13:27).

“And hath nothing in me” This means satan had no claim, power, or hold over Jesus. Unlike all other humans, Jesus was sinless (Hebrews 4:15, 1 Peter 2:22). There was no foothold for Satan to accuse Him or claim authority over Him. Jesus was about to suffer and die, but not because of any sin or weakness in Himself—He was willingly laying down His life as part of God’s divine plan (John 10:18).

Our Conclusion of this Scripture:

Jesus was in full control – Even though satan was moving world events, Jesus’ death was part of God’s greater plan of redemption. Satan has no power to destroy those who belong to Christ – If we are in Christ, Satan cannot truly claim us (Romans 8:1, Colossians 1:13). The battle is already won – Though Satan is still at work, his final defeat is certain (Revelation 20:10).

There is comfort in knowing that those of us who have chosen to follow Jesus Christ will not see satan as our God of the earth, but rather we belong to Jesus Christ. The closer that we are to the Savior, the less influence that satan has over us.

It also explains the evil that is present in people who traffic children. They are all under the control, or influence of “Their god” satan. Responsibility of their awful actions relies within themselves, as well as satan…They BOTH are responsible!

But what about these innocent children who are victims of those who are evil. Where is God in this case? We now understand evil, but what about these children…who are innocent… God’s children? Why do they have to be involved in the evil of men?

We often pray for the protection for our children. Does God hear those prayers? If those of us who are close to Jesus Christ pray to have their family’s protected, will they be? Let us consider the reality of the answer to this question.

Sadly, I have learned in my own life that being close to the Savior, trying to live my best life, and praying for protection of my family, does not guarantee that they will be unharmed. I have experienced this first-hand, as I have had a son tragically killed in a motorcycle accident.

I also have seen many, many events in the lives of our family when they have been protected as a result of our prayers for their safety. Many times, I could personally see the hand of God in keeping my family safe in some very dangerous situations. More times than not, I feel strongly that God has answered those prayers and protected my family. I appreciate that deeply. However, it could also be said that when it came to the biggest tragedy of our lives, our son was not protected. (I’ll write more on this later).

My point here is that we cannot simply state that there is a GUARENTEE, or 100% certainty that God will always respond in a certain way to our prayers. Many times, we might feel that He hears our prayers, yet other times we might conclude that He must not have heard that one. But why is that the case?

Here’s a clue… a puzzle piece to answering this dilemma:

Isaiah 55:8-9:

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

We often struggle to understand why God allows things to happen, especially suffering and injustice. However, this verse reminds us that God’s perspective is infinitely higher than ours. Just as the sky is far above the earth, so is God’s plan beyond human comprehension.

While we may not see the full picture, God has a perfect plan that He is working out, even in difficult times (Romans 8:28). His ways may not always make sense to us, but they will ALWAYS lead to the outcome that He has determined which will be for our best in the big picture of eternity.

This verse challenges us to trust God even when we don’t understand His ways. Just as a child might not understand why a loving parent disciplines them, we may not always grasp why God allows suffering, but we can know that He is good, wise, and just.

Let’s go back to discussing why children are allowed to suffer under the dominance of evil people. That is one of the hardest situations that I wrestle with in my mind. This touches on deep issues of God’s justice, free will, and the presence of evil in the world.

The Bible doesn’t give an easy answer, but it does provide truth, hope, and assurance that God is not indifferent to suffering, especially the suffering of children.

In researching what some religious leaders have written to this question, I would like to provide their responses.

“God gave humans free will so they could choose to love Him and do good, but that also means people can choose to do evil. When men commit horrible acts against children, it is not because God wills it, but because humanity has chosen sin and rebellion (Genesis 6:5, Romans 1:28-32).

However, God will hold evil men accountable for harming the innocent:
Matthew 18:6

“But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.”

God is not distant from human pain. Jesus Himself showed great love for children (Mark 10:14) and warned of judgment against those who harm them.

(This is a very telling statement for me. The scripture states that God knew prior to us even coming down to Earth, that children would be harmed, hence, the scripture was written. Knowing this indicates to us that He would allow such actions, however, would form judgment against them. It is not that He is not answering our prayers to protect our children, because, He knew that these events would happen. This to me is another Puzzle Piece, rather than the answer).

The Bible tells us God sees every tear and every injustice:
Psalm 56:8

“Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?”

We may not always see justice immediately, but God promises that He will bring justice in the end (Romans 12:19, Revelation 20:12-15).

So, if we have concluded that God knew that men would harm children, why would He allow it?

Remember the scripture above, “neither are your ways my ways”? This is indeed the answer to that question. He knows that it is going to happen, and is allowing it FOR A REASON WE DON’T UNDERSTAND, because we do not think like Him. (Again, a puzzle piece and not THE answer).

Even though we think different than God, as he sees things in an eternal perspective, Let’s consider things further to try to understand, even though we might not agree with it, using our mortal minds. Remember, we are after puzzle pieces to better understand the potential answer.

These children are experiencing pain and suffering. Let’s try to understand why God would not prevent pain and suffering. Does God see purpose in allowing us to experience pain and suffering? We as mortals don’t want any part of pain or suffering. How can we see any value in those emotions?

God Uses Suffering for a Greater Purpose. Although we may not understand why He allows certain things, God can bring healing, redemption, and eternal justice whenever He would like. Some of the most powerful testimonies come from those who have survived unthinkable evil and found healing in Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:28
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Suffering is one of the greatest mysteries of human existence, and yet, from a biblical perspective, it serves a profound purpose in shaping our eternal destiny. While pain and hardship can seem unbearable in the moment, God allows suffering as a means of refining us, drawing us closer to Him, and preparing us for eternity. Just as fire purifies gold, trials and tribulations purify our faith, making us stronger and more dependent on God.

The Apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 5:3-4, “But we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope.” Through suffering, we develop perseverance, wisdom, and a greater hope in God’s promises.

Moreover, suffering often serves as a wake-up call, turning our hearts away from the fleeting things of this world and toward the eternal kingdom of God. If life were without hardship, we might never seek Him, never realize our deep need for a Savior.

In 2 Corinthians 4:17, Paul declares, “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” What we endure now is temporary, but the transformation it produces within us carries eternal value. God is not indifferent to our pain—He allows it to shape us into the image of Christ, preparing us for the glory that awaits.

Finally, suffering aligns us with Christ Himself. Jesus, though sinless, endured the greatest suffering on the cross, and through His pain, salvation was made possible for all who believe. When we suffer, we share in His sufferings, learning obedience, humility, and compassion for others (Hebrews 5:8). Though God does not always remove our suffering immediately, He walks with us through it, offering His strength, peace, and the promise that one day, all pain will cease (Revelation 21:4). Until then, suffering serves as a tool to refine our character, deepen our faith, and prepare us for an eternity in His presence.

Now, back to the experience of my son’s death. I have never suffered greater than I did when my son died. It was something that I would never wish for, yet it produced something in my life that is priceless to me.

After he died, I recognized that I would not be able to push through this on my own. That person was my Savior. In reaching out to Him, I was cottled with His love, guidance, and spiritual teachings. This was by far, the most spiritual experience of my life. I felt that I knew God before, but this experience taught me so much more about Him and His purpose in our lives.

He gave me such a reassurance that I would see my son again. This was not just a hope, but a realization of 100% certainty that this would be the case. “Spirit to spirit” if you will. I saw God as kind in that moment…Why? Because it was at that time that He picked up a broken man, and helped mend him. I was that man he fixed. I did not feel Him leave my side for several weeks. I was able to get to know God deeper, as well as a piece of heaven as a result of my suffering.

So, what have we learned today? What are the puzzle pieces that we have discovered that can help us get more insight as to why God allows bad things to happen to those we love?

  • Satan is the god of this earth. His rule is over people who have chosen not to be followers of Christ.
  • God KNEW that children would be “hurt” while here on earth. Knowing the He knew this would happen, gives us some insight.
  • God’s ways are not the same as our thoughts and ways.
  • Pain and suffering are not always prevented through prayer.
  • Negative experiences relating to pain and suffering can produce personal growth.
  • God will hold those accountable for the awful things that they do towards others.

So then, our mortal experience is indeed simply that… an EXPERIENCE. It is not our forever, yet simply a sliver of time in our eternal existence. We are here, not to experience a dream vacation, but rather to learn and grow. There is a purpose for us to have the experiences that we endure.

This time upon the earth is quickly coming to an end. We have been promised that when Jeus Christ returns to the earth He will wipe away every tear and put an end to suffering once and for all:

Revelation 21:4
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”

The body that we have right now is a vessel that will no longer be needed, as its purpose has been fulfilled. It will gladly be resurrected into something glorious, free from the pain and suffering that we have all experienced.

In closing, it is fair to state that we might not have a complete understanding of all things while in the nets of mortal life. I pray that we can all have faith in knowing that all of these questions will soon be answered… with our complete understanding. We do not have the information necessary to answer every question as to why things happen the way they do…. And that my friend is the final puzzle piece.

I pray that all of you will have the ability to endure until the end. Be strong! Continue to be brave in this world of unfairness. I look forward to meeting all of you on the other side, and am anxious to hear your experiences and the things that you have learned while living upon this rock. Much love!
