Championship Sunday Predictions: Who Will Meet in Super Bowl LIX?

We’re going to do some NFL Championship Sunday predictions here at RSR, despite the fact that for most of the, pain is still so acute from yet another heartbreaking Ravens postseason loss (or maybe you’re numb to it all).
In the AFC, where the Ravens should be headed to Kansas City for some revenge against the Chiefs, instead it’s Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills who get another crack at Reid & Mahomes. The team looking for an unprecedented Super Bowl three-peat enters the game as 1.5-point favorites.
On the other side, adding even more logs to our nightmare fire, the two teams that surround Baltimore geographically get to duke it out. The team formerly known as the Redskins (+6) are riding the first rookie QB to beat a #1 seed in the playoffs since Joe Flacco, looking for their first Super Bowl appearance since the 1991 season. Philadelphia and their fierce ground game, led by Saquon Barkley, could be playing in the game for the second time in three years.
Let’s get to some Championship Sunday predictions, shall we?
NFL Championship Sunday Predictions
Tony Lombardi
Jalen “is hurt” Hurts will grind it out and fulfill his role as the NFL’s most expensive game manager. He’ll throw it just 18 times on Sunday, completing 13 for 165 yards and 2 scores – one to DeVonta Smith and a second to Dallas Goedert. Saquon Barkley rushes for 185 yards and 2 scores.
Meanwhile the Commanders’ inability to get any traction in the running game puts Jayden Daniels behind the sticks throughout. His amazing rookie campaign comes to a crashing halt when he connects on just 23 of 38 passes for 2 scores, 220 yards and 2 INTs. The turnovers are costly ones. The always are in the postseason. Eagles in a rout.

On the other side, can both teams lose? Please?
By now, all of America not living in the Kansas City metro area is sick of the Chiefs. Sick of Mahomes and his flopping; sick of Mahomes and his whining; sick of Mahomes and that weird little wiggling of his fingers when he wants a play to be called in; sick of Mahomes’ gait when he runs; sick of the favoritism from his teammates…er, I mean referees; sick of Taylor Swift; sick of Travis Kelce; sick of the icicles in Andy Reid’s snot-drenched mustache; sick of the word “3-peat”; sick of Tony Romo’s man crush on Mahomes; I’m sick of the flipping KAN-SAH-CITY CHIEFS!
And then on the other hand, I can’t wrap my mind around Josh Allen as an AFC Champion. I don’t care much for Sean McDermott. I don’t care for their conjured up role as disrespected victims of the media; I don’t care that they’ve never won a Super Bowl; I don’t care that the Bills Mafia is a philanthropic group – there are just too many entitled Bills fans spewing venom on X who are part of said mafia; I don’t care to see what they’ll be like if they do move on to New Orleans; I don’t flipping care about the BUF-A-LOW BEALES!
You feel me?
· Mahomes throws for more yards than Allen
· James Cook rushes for over 100 yards; he’s the Bills offensive star
· Both QBs are sacked 3 times
· Marquise Brown (I refuse to call him Hollywood) catches 2 passes for 10 yards
· The Chiefs are just 2 of 5 in the red zone
· Kansas City wins the turnover battle 2-0
· Harrison Butker hits from 50+ to put the Chiefs in front
· While Tyler Bass misses the game winner from 47 yards out as time expires. Bills Mafia soon blames it all on the Curse of Norwood.
Let’s just stick with the devil we know…

I’m going to pick with my heart, not my head here (and apparently go against all my colleagues in the process).
One of the first Super Bowls I can remember watching was Bills-Redskins. I was in fourth grade at the time, and my teacher was a LOUD AND OBNOXIOUS Washington fan. Having grown up being taught to hate all things DC, having them win that game was miserable, and solidified my disdain early on. But since then, they’ve been so incredibly inept that my hate faded. Many of those folks suffered through the Angelos-era Orioles with us, but they had an equally awful owner to deal with on the pigskin side. They deserve some happiness! Throw in that they’re going against Philly, who just won a Super Bowl in 2017, and played in another two years ago…yeah, go Commies.
Commanders 24 Eagles 23
The best possible storyline for this Super Bowl (for everyone that doesn’t love KC or Taylor Swift, of course) is Buffalo getting revenge for that aforementioned ’91 Super Bowl. I know many of my Flock compatriots will consider this sacrilege, but I don’t mind the Bills. I don’t participate in much of the online bickering, and the Buffalo fans I know in real life are all awesome people (even as far as being a football fan goes, not just that they’re good humans).
Please, Josh. Get ‘er done.

Will it stink to have to deal with both Jayden Daniels and Josh Allen getting to a Super Bowl before Lamar Jackson? Yep. And if my predictions are wrong, I’ll console myself with the fact that didn’t happen.

I’m going to stay with the theme I had last week. I didn’t believe the Ravens would beat the Bills because I didn’t trust them in a game like that.
Well, I feel the same way this week. Now, I don’t view the Bills as a “dumb team” like I do the Ravens but until they show me they can beat KC in the playoffs, I won’t believe it. Allen could do it. He may have one of those all time games but I think he becomes the first QB ever to go 0-4 against the same team in the playoffs.
KC 24 Buffalo 20
Jayden Daniels has been a great story and you have to feel good for the DC fan base. Like the O’s fan base, they suffered through awful ownership for years and just getting rid of Snyder was so great for them but to have Daniels add onto that is a dream for those fans.
That said, I think their season ends this week. While DC has the better QB, Philly has the better all around team. I suspect the Commanders defense costs them this week. Daniels had a soft landing spot vs Detroit. That was a defense decimated by injury and it was indoors, so he didn’t have elements to deal with. That will change this week.

I’m gutted that I have to write this under these circumstances. Should have been us, darn.
The Bills seem to be playing at a higher level than the Chiefs. They’re playing sound football and limiting mistakes which is how you win in the playoffs.
However, the man on the other side is 16-3 in the playoffs, and has reached seven straight AFC championships. I just have a feeling the Chiefs will somehow manage to pull it off once again.
Chiefs 27 Bills 24
A rookie quarterback beating the NFC’s #1 seed to reach the conference championship is insanely impressive. Jayden Daniels has led this extraordinary effort, and has been surgical with his arm while creating with his legs. He also has the weapons to match. Terry McLaurin is the biggest threat, but Dyami Brown has proved to be a formidable threat with his huge performance against Detroit.
Philly also has an explosive offense with weapons all across the board. Jalen Hurts in my mind is pedestrian, but A.J. Brown, Devonta Smith, and Saquon Barkley elevate this offense into the elite ranks.
What gives Philly the edge in this matchup is the defense. Jalen Carter is a game wrecker in the trenches and this Eagles’ secondary is star-studded. They’ll come in clutch in the late stages of this one.

I suspect I feel the same way that a lot of Baltimore fans do when looking at this AFC Championship matchup: no matter who wins, we lose. On one hand, if Buffalo knocks off the Chiefs, we have to hear about it from Bills Mafia (and we’ll likely continue hearing from them either way). On the other, if the Chiefs advance, we have to deal with seeing them in the Super Bowl yet again.
Goody.
The Bills offense was slowed significantly in the second half of the divisional game, and as good as Josh Allen and the Bills offense have looked, they’ll be up against stiff competition with the Chiefs defensive front. Beyond that, with the game in KC and the track record of what we’re seeing out of the officiating crews, Buffalo would have to make it a laugher, because they can’t afford to keep the game close. I just don’t see it happening.
Chiefs 27 Bills 17
On the NFC side, I’d love to see Jayden Daniels and the Commanders pull off a Cinderella run and punch a ticket to the Super Bowl, but it’s a tough sell. Yes, they split the season series with the Eagles, but the Commanders’ win in Washington came on the back of Hurts leaving early with a concussion and a three-touchdown fourth quarter comeback and go-ahead touchdown with six seconds remaining. The Eagles have come on at the right time, and with the game in Philly and Saquon Barkley continuing to roll over defenses like a man possessed, I can’t see Washington lucking out again. The clock strikes midnight for them, but I can’t take anything away from the season that they’ve had.

After being at last week’s heartbreaking loss in Orchard Park, NY I can’t say I’m motivated to watch any football this weekend. The reason I will be may be surprising. This was the second time that I made the trip to Highmark Stadium and for the most part all of the fans were very respectful. However there were just enough of the drunk people after the game shouting disrespectful remarks about the Ravens that got under my skin. All it takes is one bad apple – and there was more than one.
I don’t think Josh Allen played all that well in last week’s game compared to his regular season. He was mostly throwing short stuff not very far beyond the line of scrimmage. I also don’t think Mahomes has looked all that great all year and that includes last week, but he finds ways to win. One of those ways is obvious preferential treatment from the refs. I don’t think the Bills will be able to overcome that.
Chiefs 24 Bills 17
I live too close to Philadelphia fans that they drive me nuts so I’m finding hard to root for them. They might be the most obnoxious fans in the league. Washington has been so bad for so long that I’d like to root for them. The problem with that is the narrative is that Jayden Daniels will be compared to Lamar and he will suffer the brunt of that talk. I can hear it now: “Jayden Daniels won a Super Bowl in his rookie year and Lamar hasn’t still in seven years.”
Can they both lose this one? I think Philly’s experience will take over here.
