Chicago Cubs expected to crush it this year in latest projection
The Chicago Cubs have had an impressive offseason by adding superstars and depth pieces to their roster to be more competitive for this season.
The Cubs are on their way to being one of the best teams in the National League and possibly all of baseball.
The Cubs have a great shot to end their postseason drought this year coming into the season strong and will look to add more players as the season progresses.
The Chicago Cubs projected to be a top team this season
According to PECOTA projections on Baseball Projections, the Cubs are projected to have the third-best record in Major League Baseball and win the NL Central this season. Per PECOTA and via CHGO Cubs on Twitter, throughout 10,000 simulations the Cubs will have close to an 80% chance of winning the National League Central and are projected to win almost 91 games.

That would be a remark given the Cubs have finished with the same 83-79 record for the past two seasons. The Cubs should be a lot better than that record and be more competitive by adding superstar outfielder Kyler Tucker and All-Star closer Ryan Pressly to the roster.
Other additions to improve the win total
Some other additions made this offseason were signing veteran left-hander Caleb Thielbar to a one-year deal giving the Cubs a solid lefty option out of the pen. Another addition was the Cubs adding veteran utility man Jon Berti on a one-year deal to be an effective weapon off their bench. With the status of Nico Hoerner still up in the air for whether he’ll start Opening Day, Berti adds valuable depth until he’s back.
The Cubs also snatched away veteran middle infielder Nicky Lopez from the crosstown rival the Chicago White Sox by signing Lopez to a minor league deal with the thought he’ll make the big league roster out of camp. Lopez will also give the Cubs another infielder to choose from in case Hoerner isn’t ready. Other minor additions such as Vidal Brujan and Rule 5 pick Gage Workman will further add to the Cub’s depth if any injuries occur.
The Cubs can make the playoffs
The Chicago Cubs have a real chance to be a great team this season and finally break their playoff drought.
The roster is never done being added to, but going into the season with the additions the Cubs have made is a great start.
Hopefully, everyone stays relatively healthy and the Cubs start the season off on the right foot to give fans something to be excited about.
