OTL: In Mock Draft Friday, the Dreaded Trade Back

For today’s Mock Draft, we have decided to move down the board and maneuver through the Draft while also using BPA. This is a big class with a lot of picks, so get comfortable. We have a lot of prospects to talk about.

I didn’t like the options at 27, so I decided it was better just to trade down and evaluate the board at 32 while also picking up a third and fifth round pick. Also, picking up Kenneth Grant at 32 was just the icing on top of the trade down. He is fun to talk about. While he looks more like a nose tackle, due to his shorter arms, he plays more like a smaller defensive lineman and navigates offensive lines through swim moves and swipes instead of pure power:

That’s not to say he doesn’t have power, but I thought he needed to unleash more of those kind of moves on tape. This is why I ultimately graded Grant later in the first round. Still,as the 32nd pick, he can help replace Michael Pierce very nicely.

Landon Jackson is also a weird prospect to talk about. Despite his hulking build and looking more like a pure power rusher, like Grant, he plays with finesse:

Jackson reminds me me of Maxx Crosby as a prospect. He had all the makings of an elite player yet never truly put it together in college. If Jackson starts using his power more with his repertoire, he could be an elite player and a well-worth-it risk in the second round.

We already discussed Mukuba last week, and if he is here in the third, the Ravens should be all over it. A proper free safety with elite coverage skills would complete this defense.

Jacob Parrish is a pretty fun evaluation. He ran a good forty at the combine and while his size says nickel, I think his style is that of an outside corner:

He also also brings everything that comes with being a slot cornerback, including good tackling and zone coverage skills. He is a true chess piece for Zach Orr.

While shorter, C.J. West is actually a purer than pure pass rusher. Stautman is just a solid linebacker with good run defense and that thumping abitilty to bring it.

At this point in Mock Draft Friday, Felton and Lundt are veterans,, but for good reason. They are both solid players, and Feltoy intrigues me. I want to see if we can unlock the version that he showed in the first half of last season.

McLaughlin is a very powerful center who also played guard. Etienne has good vision and is solid as a runner. Jake Majors, while another center prospect is a pure backup while McLaughlin would be moving to guard. Borregales would be the new kicker for thee Ravens and Conyers is great as tight end depth.

The board I was given wasn’t the best in this Mock, but I made it work. This one was a lot longer than most of the Mocks because of the trade-down. It was a fun exercise to see what happens when you aren’t presented with the options you expected, and how to deal with it.
