Chicago Bears sign free agent cornerback before voluntary OTAs

There was always a good possibility the Chicago Bears were going to add more secondary depth before voluntary and mandatory OTAs this spring. The Bears need to consider finding depth at safety given the injury history of Jaquan Brisker.

Former LSU standout Major Burns was a safety who was on a few scouts’ lists to potentially make a push for a roster spot in training camp.

Per an announcement by the Bears on Monday, the team added another rookie undrafted free agent to the secondary roster, this time at cornerback.

The Bears signed cornerback Jeremiah Walker to the 90-man roster by creating an extra spot when they placed an international roster exemption on second-year punter Tory Taylor, who is from Australia.

Walker played college football for Stephen F. Austin. He recorded 137 total tackles, 17 passes defensed, four interceptions, and one pick-six during his time at SFA. He hasn’t recorded an interception since 2021.

Walker recorded 35 tackles, six passes defensed, and one forced fumble in 2024.

Walker does have some experience returning kicks and punts in college. The six-foot, 200-pound athlete from Houston attempted one punt return in 2023. He returned seven kickoffs in 2021 for 127 yards.

Walker, who was a tryout player at the Bears’ rookie minicamp this past weekend per multiple reports, faces an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster in training camp.
