Can You Prove that the Tribulation Period will Last 7 Years? Well… Yes You Can. Has it Started Yet?

The King James Version (KJV) of the Bible does not explicitly use the phrase “seven-year tribulation”—that terminology is more of a theological interpretation based on various prophecies found mainly in Daniel, Revelation, and some of Jesus’ teachings.

However, the 7-year tribulation is commonly associated with a future period of judgment and suffering before the return of Jesus Christ, especially in premillennial, dispensational eschatology.

Here are the key scriptures from the KJV that are used to support the idea of a 7-year tribulation period:

📜 Daniel 9:24–27 — The Seventy Weeks Prophecy

“Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city…“
(Verse 27)
“And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease…”

• This “week” is understood by many scholars to represent seven years.
• The “he” is interpreted as the Antichrist, who makes a 7-year covenant and breaks it at the 3.5-year mark.

📖 Revelation 6–19 — The Tribulation Chapters

These chapters describe seals, trumpets, and bowl judgments—a time of massive global suffering, plagues, wars, and divine wrath.

• Revelation 6: The four horsemen, beginning of the judgments.
• Revelation 11:2-3:

“…they shall tread under foot the holy city forty and two months…and I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days…”
(That’s 1,260 days = 3.5 years)

• Revelation 12:6, 14:

“And the woman fled into the wilderness…that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days…”
“…a time, and times, and half a time…”
(Again, 3.5 years)

• Revelation 13:5:

“And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things…and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.”
(This is referring to the Antichrist/beast reigning for 3.5 years)

These two 3.5-year periods are why many scholars and believers understand the tribulation to last seven years total.

📜 Matthew 24:15–31 — Jesus on the Great Tribulation

(Verse 21)
“For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.”

• Jesus refers to the “abomination of desolation” spoken of by Daniel, linking it to end-time events.
• These verses parallel much of what is found in Revelation.

*Must allow the building of the third temple on the temple mount in Israel.
