Is Pope Leo XIV the False Prophet Spoken of in the Book of Revelation? Let’s Get into It!

I must first begin by saying that everything that I write is my own opinion, based upon independent study and prayer. The intent with my writings is to identify the unfolding of biblical prophecies in the end-times, rather than demean anyone or any organization. They are speculative and are not based upon solid known facts.

Those following the end-times detailed in the KJV of the Bible know that we are at the cusp of identifying two very important characters, who will dominate and lead mankind in the last days: The Antichrist and the False Prophet.

We have been told by the prophets in the Bible of specific things to watch for in identifying these two men. Knowing who they are is key to preventing the deception that is also noted in the scriptures. I must tell you that those of you who are watching, studying, and praying, it will be VERY EASY to identify these two men, as there will be no question who they are.

There are several reasons why some Bible prophecy interpreters—especially those with a futurist or dispensational view—suggest that Pope Leo XIV could potentially be the False Prophet mentioned in the Book of Revelation. These views are speculative but widely discussed in end-times theology circles. Here’s a breakdown of the reasoning:

1. Revelation’s Description of the False Prophet

In Revelation 13 and 19, the False Prophet:

• Performs miraculous signs (like calling fire from heaven).
• Promotes worship of the Antichrist (the first beast).
• Leads a global religious system.
• Creates an image of the beast and enforces the mark (Revelation 13:11–17).

Some see the role of the papacy—particularly its global influence and religious authority—as a match for this description.

2. Historical Protestant Views

• Reformers like Martin Luther and John Calvin referred to the pope as Antichrist, citing corruption and control.
• Some 19th–20th century evangelicals evolved this view, interpreting the pope not as the Antichrist himself, but as the False Prophet who supports the Antichrist.

3. The Papacy’s Global Religious Influence

The pope:

• Leads over 1.3 billion Catholics.
• Has unique access to world leaders.
• Promotes a universal message of unity, which some interpret as a prelude to a one-world religion.

The False Prophet is prophesied to unite the world under a false religious system that glorifies the Antichrist. A globally recognized spiritual leader could fulfill this role.

4. Ecumenism and Interfaith Efforts

Previously, Pope Francis and others have been very active in:

• Building bridges with other religions (Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, etc.).
• Promoting universal brotherhood and moral unity.

Critics argue this could lay the groundwork for a spiritual alliance without biblical truth, potentially fulfilling Revelation’s vision of a false religious system.

5. Mystery Babylon and the Vatican?

Some associate Revelation 17’s Mystery Babylon—a “woman” riding the beast, clothed in purple and scarlet, and drunk on the blood of saints—with the Roman Catholic Church. These symbols match the Vatican’s traditional colors and past persecutions. The woman’s city is said to sit on seven hills, which many connect to Rome.

Caveats

• These interpretations are speculative and not all Christians agree.
• The Catholic Church interprets Revelation very differently, and many theologians reject a literal future False Prophet or one-world religion. (Interesting, right?!?)

In Summary

Yes, there are prophetic and theological reasons why some believe the Pope Leo XIV could be the False Prophet described in Revelation, especially if he:

• Promotes a one-world religion,
• Backs a global leader (potential Antichrist),
• Or performs deceptive signs and wonders.

While the election of Pope Leo XIV has reignited interest in certain prophecies, there is no concrete evidence to suggest he embodies the qualities of the False Prophet described in Revelation. Interpretations of prophecies should be approached with caution, and it’s essential to rely on credible sources and teachings when evaluating such claims.

We, who are watching, will indeed know for a certainty who the False Prophet is, by his actions to set up and manage the One World Religion that is to come. He will work hand-in-hand with the Antichrist to rule this world, until they are destroyed when our Savior, Jesus Christ, returns to the Earth.
