Used Vehicle Prices Spike as Dealers Fail to Sell New Inventory! (Video)

in this 10 May 2025 video, the Untamed Gang host discusses how dealers can’t sell new cars, so they raise prices of used inventory! Makes ZERO sense… Greedy dealerships are artificially inflating the market because new vehicles are not selling. New cars, trucks and SUVs cost too much for most Americans. With talk of tariffs looming, dealers are going all in on used inventory.

• New car truck and SUV prices have gotten completely out of touch with reality.
• New trucks well over $60K…
• New full-size heavy duty trucks $80-100K
• Full-size SUVs are $70-100K
• Your run of the mill Toyota Camry is $35-40K
• Midsize trucks well over $50K
• Many dealers are turning away allocations 
• Many dealers still have an abundance of unsold 2024 units. Much more than normal.
• Causing slowed production at assembly lines
• Everything is getting a smaller displacement engine… turbo or hybridized 
• Quality continues to go down and price tags continue to shoot to the moon.
• Dealer greed was propelled by the pandemic… charging markups over MSRP became commonplace.
• Dealers are praying the tariffs will serve as their “Covid 2.0” for price gouging.
• Salesmen already deploying their “fear mongering” tactics. Buy your vehicle before tariffs hit!
• Salesmen are quitting… doesn’t make sense to stay around when commissions are such a huge part of their income.
• 2014 F250 with the 6.7l powerstoke, 65K miles… wanted $46,500 now $47,900. After sitting for over a month.
• People are upside on their auto loans right now… highest level of 30, 60, 90 day delinquencies since 08-09 recession.
• People are realizing a large auto loan payment with a  high interest rate combined with skyrocketing insurance premiums, and all other cost of living payments.
• Much of the used inventory going through auction or wholesale are repossessions…. Not the best quality vehicles.
• People are not trading in. 
• People are underwater on their auto loans since they likely overpaid these last few years.
• Used by inventory is a bit more scarce… but people cannot afford new. So used has become a hotter commodity!
• I’m talking vehicles that are 2-5 years old and under 100K miles.
• Instead of paying $85K for a new Silverado 2500 diesel, you can pay $50K for the same truck just 2-3 years old. Used to be $40-45K just a couple months ago.
• Although you can get “large” discounts and incentivized interest rates on new, the price tags are still out of reach.
• Monthly payments have gotten so high!
• Banks aren’t lending for huge auto loans right now. Lots of denials… 1/5 denied last quarter.
• Dealers are hiking prices of used inventory that has been sitting in their lots for weeks sometimes months. It’s as if they’re intentionally driving up the market… artificially.
