Wormwood – Asteroid 2024 YR4 – Rivers Turning to Blood – Is it “Game On”?

The Bible uses the name “Wormwood” as a symbol of divine judgment, bitterness, and destruction. One of the most well-known references is found in:

Revelation 8:10-11 (KJV):

“And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.”

What Could Wormwood Be?

A Literal Celestial Event?
Some believe Wormwood refers to an actual asteroid or comet that will crash into Earth, poisoning the water supply and fulfilling part of God’s judgment.

A Symbol of Divine Judgment?
In the Old Testament, wormwood symbolizes sorrow, suffering, and punishment (Jeremiah 9:15; Lamentations 3:15, 19). Revelation may use it metaphorically to describe widespread tribulation.

A Nuclear or Chemical Disaster?
Some scholars suggest Wormwood could symbolize a man-made catastrophe, such as a nuclear event. A connection often made is with Chernobyl, which translates to “wormwood” in Ukrainian, suggesting a future disaster involving poisoned water.

Wormwood reminds us of God’s coming judgment and the need for spiritual preparedness.

As part of the unfolding events in Revelation, it serves as a warning for believers to remain watchful and to help others turn to Christ.

Asteroid 2024 YR4

Scientists have identified an asteroid named 2024 YR4, which has a slightly more than 1% chance of impacting Earth on December 22, 2032. While the world may see this as a random occurrence, believers in Christ understand that God works through natural means. Could this asteroid be part of His divine plan?

For those who don’t follow Christ, the possibility of such an impact might create fear, uncertainty, and anxiety. But for believers, we recognize that the end times are unfolding as foretold. We understand that God’s wrath will be poured out on those who reject Christ, and Wormwood—whether an asteroid, a disaster, or a symbolic event—will play a part in His divine plan.

The Rivers Turning to Blood

Are we already seeing the early signs of these prophecies coming to pass? In February 2025, the Sarandí Canal in Argentina turned a deep red, alarming residents. Investigators suggested the color change was due to an “organic dye,” possibly from industrial pollution. But could this be a warning sign from God?

Does This Fulfill Revelation?

Revelation 16:4 (KJV)

“And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.”

While striking, the recent events do not fully align with this prophecy. The Bible describes a global event where all waters turn to literal blood as part of God’s wrath.

What we see now may be foreshadowing’s—reminders for mankind to repent before the full judgment comes.

God, in His wisdom, is giving mankind time to turn to Him. These events—asteroids, red rivers, and global turmoil—should cause people to reflect on the times we are living in. Are they coincidences, or is God warning us to prepare?

As signs begin to appear all over the world which are similar to the biblical prophecies, I can see the wisdom of our God, wanting to give all mankind time to repent and come unto Him through Jesus Christ. These similar events are a way to get people thinking deeply concerning the end times.

All of these things are intended for all of us to see. They do create a certain amount of anxiety, which I believe is intended. We need to realize that we are in the end times. It is then that as we turn our hearts over to the Savior, we see His plan. And in His plan, we also realize that His wrath is not intended to be upon the followers of Jesus Christ.

He also has a plan for us, which is different than “Sorrow, Suffering, and Punishment.”

Believers in Christ will be “Raptured” from the earth, avoiding God’s wrath. He will rescue us, just as he did the Israelites by parting the Red Sea, allowing their escape. This miracle will be different, although the same in coming from a miraculous event.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (KJV):

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”

This passage describes believers being “caught up” (the Latin word rapturo means “to seize or snatch away”) to meet Christ at His coming. Other key scriptures related to the rapture include:

1 Corinthians 15:51-52 (KJV)

“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

Luke 17:34-36 (KJV)

“I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.

Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.”

Matthew 24:40-41 (KJV)

“Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.”

So, is it “Game On?” The answer is a resounding YES! The asteroid, as well as the rivers turning red in color might not be the specific signs as detailed in revelation… and yet… they may be. The key here is to realize that we are living in the End of Days, and we all need to get ready.

Find Jesus Christ. Let His atoning sacrifice play out in your life as you repent, and try to be your best. You will find immediate peace, as well as knowing that He has got you! His plan for you is different from the destruction that people fear. He will rescue you!

The signs are appearing. The question is—are you paying attention?
