A Prediction On Where Verdugo Will Go
Alex Verdugo’s time in the Bronx started off promising, but as the season wore on, things took a turn. While I appreciated the effort he put in, I never truly felt like he was a “Yankee”—much like Marcus Stroman. It’s unfortunate that things didn’t work out for him in New York, but he still has a future in the league and will need to find a new home in 2025.
Could the Houston Astros be the team to take a chance on him? Once regarded as a top outfield prospect, Verdugo is still just 28, and a fresh start might be exactly what he needs. Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller projected that Houston could be his next destination, filling the void left by three-time All-Star Kyle Tucker.
“After initially playing well, Verdugo had a .585 OPS over his final 95 regular-season games played,” Miller noted. “He still started in left field for each of the Yankees’ 14 postseason games, and he hit a home run in Game 2 of the World Series. Goodness knows the Astros could use a corner outfielder.”
A one-year deal with Houston—or anywhere, really—could be a smart move, giving Verdugo a chance to prove himself and potentially earn a bigger contract after 2025. I genuinely believe his second-half struggles were just an extended slump, something even the best players go through. No matter where he ends up, I think he’ll bounce back and have a strong season.
