Chicago Bulls starter reveals preferred destination before trade deadline
The Chicago Bulls are set to go through a rough patch in the next few months as they conclude a season with the intention of rebuilding.
The Bulls decided to start their much-needed blow-up by trading Zach LaVine to the Sacramento Kings to reunite with his former Chicago teammate, DeMar DeRozan. More moves are expected to come before Thursday’s trade deadline.
The depleted Chicago roster will be tough for fans to watch, but the team has needed to rebuild for a while. Several players and coach Billy Donovan are considering their future with the Bulls. Donovan revealed his thoughts on going through a rebuild.
Coby White doesn’t want to be traded
Per Juila Poe of the Chicago Tribune, point guard Coby White, now the team’s longest-tenured player, said he hoped the Bulls wouldn’t trade him this week.
“I’ve been in Chicago since my career started,” White said. “This is home for me. I just bought a house. I love it here. This is a great place. I love my teammates. We’ve got a bunch of young talent, guys that want to learn and want to win.”
A tough decision for the Chicago Bulls
The Bulls selected White with the No. 7 pick in the 2019 draft. The North Carolina Tar Heels standout earned NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors.
White didn’t blossom into a full-time starter until this season. The 24-year-old has shown promising ability in that role, averaging 19.1 points, and 5.1 assists on 36.5 minutes per game. His FG% is .447, a career-high for the Goldsboro, North Carolina native.
White is young another to be a leader on a rebuilding team. He’s also talented enough to help Chicago expedite the process.
