OTL: Todd Monken Gets Comfy at The Castle

Happy Ignore the Super Bowl Week, Flock. That’s what we’re all celebrating, right?
Fortunately, we had a little bit of news yesterday to distract us from the start of media festivities in New Orleans, festivities that we all feel our team should be participating in.
First, a star player on a rival AFC North squad requested a trade. Later on, we got word that a Ravens coordinator would be back in the building for the foreseeable future.
As for the former, the trainwreck that is the Cleveland Browns is the gift that keeps on giving. Myles Garrett has had quite enough of being part of that wreck, thank you very much, and wants out.
Garrett just turned 29, and still has several productive seasons of terrorizing opposing offenses in his future. He wants to spend them somewhere that he has a chance to win a Super Bowl. Hard to blame him. He’s a four-time First Team All Pro, was the Defensive Player of the Year in 2023, and he’s played in all of three playoff games in his career.
Of course, Ravens fans joined fans of the other 30 teams in calling for our GM to do whatever it takes to get #95 in the building.
There are franchise defining moments available once every half decade or decade.
This is that moment for the Ravens.
Myles Garrett will win you a championship with what you have now.
You have 11 picks in this draft.
The money will be tight, but can be bent to work.
Do it. https://t.co/XULu99b2bx

Is it feasible from a cap standpoint? Sure…
Capwise, acquiring Garrett is pretty easy given the present structure* of his deal (2 yrs left), but given the amount of trade comp that will be involved, the new team will want to do an ext & have it in place b4 the trade. That said, I highly doubt the Browns trade him here. /1 https://t.co/0apTu8B2LD

It wasn’t just fans though, as new assistant Chuck Pagano chimed in as well.

Everyone should probably just chill though. The Browns say they have no plans on shopping him at all.

While it would certainly be nice to not have to see Garrett twice a year – assuming Cleveland moved him out of the AFC North, and preferably the conference altogether – it won’t hurt our feelings to see the Browns give up the chance to load up with additional first-round picks that could turn into cheap and under-control stars for a few seasons. Mike Tomlin says he wants volunteers, not hostages. Cleveland is fine with the latter.
Here in Charm City, while we won’t have Myles Garrett in 2025, we will have Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken.

This was looking pretty iffy a month or so ago, as Monken was taking interviews for head coaching positions. However, we got the good news that he’ll be hanging around to continue helping the Ravens have one of the best – if not the best – offenses in football.
How about some change-ups on those two-point conversions next year, Todd?
Alright, Flock. Back to ignoring Super Bowl media week.
