We can always speculate, it is plausible. And if it is true I do not like it.
My own Dad never listened to me at all, he followed his way, that did hurt me quite a lot, but he was my only and One Dad and now when he is gone. He left me with a mishmash of feelings, I miss him, but we never gotten even, something like that.
(I was never butt fucked or anything like that.)
Most of us had a shitty Dad or Step Dad. Bottom line is we are here, wounds and all. Can’t blame the old man forever. At some point I take it upon my own shoulders to be the best I can be, regardless of the lousy parenting I was given. I too have been too harsh with my kids and learned from my mistakes. Time to forgive and move on and not dwell on things that in the past.
